Skillet Gets the Square: Meet 'Berta,' the Craft Services Truck

Meet Skillet's Berta

Josh Henderson of Skillet doesn’t have trouble staying in the spotlight. Between practically inventing the food truck scene in Seattle and being spotlighted in the national media with the recent opening of his first brick-and-mortar shop, The Skillet Diner, not to mention his cookbook in development, he's getting plenty of press. But now, it's his turn to be an extra--and go behind the scenes.

Skillet is releasing ‘Skillet Squared’, also known as 'Berta'- a full on, old school taco truck to be used for craft services on photo and film shoots around town.

Henderson has a back story of this very specific type of catering work before he started playing a lead role as chef in an Airstream. And while they’ve done a bit of work on photo shoots with the existing shiny bullet trailers Henderson says the storage capacity for larger scale catering just isn’t in the little fellows.

Skillet Squared's first role was this weekend on the UW campus, feeding the hungry cast and crew of the film 21 and Over (written by the same team who brought us The Hangover) who are shooting in Seattle through September. Which in and of itself is exciting, but made more so because of Skillet's part in the making!

The lease of Berta was initially going to be temporary, but now Henderson thinks he’ll seek a supporting role for her on more shoots as well as possibly taking Berta on the road for a Street Food tour this winter. In other words, Skillet thinks it's hip to be squared.
