Go West!: Team Coco, A Less Colorful House and a Swank Liquor Store

We love our West Seattle neighbors, and thought they deserved more attention. Every Friday, we'll post the week's happenings in Seattle's island town.

To start: Congratulations to the West Seattle Blog for a much-deserved shout-out in the American Journalism Review! Keep up your fantastic work.

This Week in West Seattle:

  • Conan fucking O'Brien has been making the rounds this week, including an appearance at the Caspar Babypants show at Hiawatha Community Center last night.

  • The iconic Rainbow House: No longer rainbow! Also, there are SO MANY local legends surrounding that house, if you feel like poking around the internet today.

  • We've heard how the Seattlest Curmudgen feels about flash mobs, but nobody can deny that when it's all tiny children, it's pretty adorable:

  • Three concept designs were revealed for the Highland Park Spraypark. (I didn't know what "spraypark" meant either -- apparently it's a park designed for playing in water.)

  • A cabbie was attacked with a stun gun by a customer in what was apparently an attempted robbery.

  • Don't eat the shellfish from Lincoln Park Beach! Just don't!

  • Luchadores visited South Park over the weekend.

  • All that bus-stabbing drama downtown this week? The ride started in West Seattle.

  • The Steve Bushaw murder case is now in the jury's hands.

Coming Up:

  • Y'all are getting a swank new liquor store! Starting on Wednesday, you can clue us in on what differentiates a "premier" liquor store from what the rest of us have.

  • Funeral arrangements have been set for Sweetheart Failautusi, the 23-year-old woman killed in White Center August 16.

  • Highline Medical Center is opening an urgent care clinic.
