Extra, Extra: Small Women and Shrinking Government
- Washington State's youngest ferry has already been benched, officials are saying, due to engine trouble. This will reduce weekend travel between Port Townsend and Coupeville, but you wouldn't want to be on an overheating ferry, would you?
- And as the ferry system's fleet is down by one, the government is down by a lot--and not just in Olympia. Cuts to health and human services have reduced government employment across the state by 7%.
- But there are still plenty of people in government to push through on the tunnel. The Feds have officially approved the project...not that the lack of approval stopped interest groups and developers from getting a head start.
- The Mayor's position hasn't been cut (yet), which means he's still able to do things like unveil a plan to make the world of commerce more inclusive for "small women and minority owned businesses." As a small woman, I approve this message.
