Money for MOHAI
It's been a rough year for Seattle's Museum of History and Industry on the financial front given last September's brouhaha between MOHAI, the mayor, and the City Council. However, there is nothing but good news to report this time. Yesterday, Jeff Bezos, of Amazon fame, announced that he is contributing a $10 million gift to the museum to fund the institution's handling of all things industry- and innovation-related.
This gift will take shape in the form of a Center for Innovation at MOHAI's new South Lake Union digs, which are scheduled for a late 2012 opening. Exhibits, events, educational programming, and more will tell the tale of how innovation is a theme that runs through the length of Seattle's history. You can read more about the new partnership on MOHAI's blog.
Until more details about the Center for Innovation emerge, we'll just focus on applauding individuals who generously invest in the city's arts and cultural institutions.
