Supermajority for the Win! King County Council Comes Through to Save Metro

You spoke, they listened.

In this morning's announcement, King County Executive Dow Constantine reported that the King County Council was able to, after thousands of testimonies, overcome their partisan shitshow to pass the $20 congestion reduction fee, allowing Metro to maintain current levels of service, rather than slicing routes and setting transit back 20 years.

We could not be more excited to report this news. Publicola has more on Dow's plan to make this fee work for everyone, including providing motorists who pay the fee with bus tickets, which they can use or donate, as well as provisions for deeply discounted options for low-income and the homeless. The plan does also include eliminating the Ride Free Zone in Downtown, which, while disappointing to many, is not unexpected in a situation that required a compromise.

Thank you to everyone who wrote to their Councilmembers, showed up to testify, and publicized the issues. Now let's go drink, and safely ride a bus home.
