Belly up to the bar at RN74 this Saturday for a downright kickass deal on sparkling wine and oysters. Celebrate the bounty at Pike Place Market with some special Canning Across America events for Can-it-Forward day. Nosh on fried chicken at Brave Horse then relish in the tomato at Tulio. Whichever way you go, it's sure to be a treat.
South Lake Union Block Party: Foodcentric Roundup
Every year we make sure not to miss one of the best parties of the summer, South Lake Union Block Party. Complete with a burger grilling competition, wine tasting and small bites from neighborhood restaurants we would be remiss if we didn't bring our appetites. This year contestants from Brave Horse, Lunchbox Laboratory, Seastar and Whole Foods will be throwing in their best burger. Who will take home the prize? You'll have to go find out. Head inside to the Discovery Center to taste wines from independent wine producers from around the world hand picked by SLU's Soul Wines--a mere bargain at $15 for eight pours. Plus, your money goes to Farestart and Youthcare.
Need any more excuses to go? We think not! See you there.

National Can-It-Forward Day Celebration at Pike Place Market:
As we mentioned earlier, canning is making a cunning comeback, but this weekend's jar party begs repeating. Celebrate Canning Across America at Pike Place Market! A jam-packed schedule includes demonstrations from some of the local ladies behind the movement, local restaurants (Pink Door, Diane's Market Kitchen, Olivar) and Deluxe Foods. Pick up some farm fresh produce from your local farmers market or at Pike Place (we really like Frank's Quality Produce) and test out your home preserving skills.
August 13-14, 8am-4pm // Pike Place Market // Free!
Sparkling and Shucking Saturday at RN74:
Seattle's newest hotspot, RN74, is hosting the mother of specials this Saturday with $5 glasses of Tissot Cremant Sparkling wine and $1 oysters in the lounge area. Dress up and pretend you are in a more stylish city, or perhaps you want to make like the waiters and go with clad in your hipster finest. Either way, you won't want to miss this special party. We hear the beignets are pretty fabulous too--so don't skip dessert.
August 13, 6-10pm // RN74 (1433 4th Ave) // $1 oyster & $5 glasses of bubbly.
Sunday Fried Chicken Dinner at Brave Horse Tavern:
Round up your family and friends for some old fashion friend chicken dinner at Brave Horse Tavern. A stellar deal for only $14 buys you fried chicken and corn relish, mac salad, a wedge of watermelon, prosser green beans (hand picked by Jackie and Tommy D!) and country rolls. Seriously, we applaud anyone bringing back Sunday dinner. And this is just the first so if you can't make it this week, no worries- there's always the next one. We are still drooling over the Thomas Keller version we tried last weekend. Who doesn't love fried chicken!
August 14, 4pm-midnight // Brave Horse Tavern (310 Terry Ave N) // $14 per person (plus tax, gratuity & drinks)
Tomatoes at Tulio:
Our favorite Italian restaurant downtown, Tulio celebrates the height of summer with the grand ruby red tomato. They invite you to dine "al fresco" on their sidewalk patio for a tomato themed seven-course dinner with wine pairings. We wonder what Chef Walter will have in store? Perhaps his famous gnocchi? Spots are limited so RSVP soon to secure your spot.
August 16, 6pm-9pm//Tulio Ristorante (1100 5th Avenue) // $100 per person with wine pairing (tax & gratuity additional) // Call (206)624-5500 to reserve a spot by August 12.
