Can't Miss It: Tuesday
Don't miss the fascinating new documentary "Beats, Rhymes, and Life" about hip-hop pioneers A Tribe Called Quest.
THAI COMEDY: Remember the last time you were enjoying some Thai food and thought, "Man, this place could really use some more comedians."? All the time, right? Well, Jai Thai on Broadway was listening in on your thoughts and they agree. So, every Tuesday and Friday nights they host an open mic night. Depending on the night, it's either called Punchline Tuesday or Punchline Friday. Sign-ups start at 8:30 pm and the show starts at 9 pm. Each week a special guest hosts the show guiding audience members through an evening of funny and bartenders are waiting patiently to serve up strong drinks and the best (well, perhaps only) Thai food you'll find at any open mic.

ROUND AND ROUND WE GO: Fremont Abbey Arts Center has been doing this little thing called The Round for sometime now. They are hugely popular and it's spreading. There are versions of the round in a handful of other cities, including Tacoma; Austin, TX; and Lebanon, PA. Here's how it goes - a few musicians share the stage with poets and painters and they all take turns playing songs and reading poems and painting stuff. Sometimes the artists even collaborate right there on the spot - creating something entirely new and original for the special audience that just happens to be there. So, not your average concert. Tonight's Round will have musicians Alex Robert (Black Whales); Evan Easthope and Kessiah Gordon (Land of Pines); and members of The Young Evils sharing the stage with poets Matt Gano and Gibson Collins; and painter Nalisha Rangel. Check out what Morgen had to say about The Round here.

GO ON AN AWARD TOUR: In 2008, about ten years after the group released their last album, The Love Movement, A Tribe Called Quest headed out on a sold-out reunion tour. Actor and director Michael Rapport tagged along to catch the behind-the-scenes action. The result is the new documentary film Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest. Selling five gold and platinum albums in eight years made A Tribe Called Quest one of the most commercially successful and artistically significant musical groups in recent history, and regarded as iconic pioneers of hip-hop. The band's sudden break-up in 1998 shocked the industry and saddened the scores of fans, whose appetite for the group's innovative musical stylings never seems to diminish. With good reviews pouring in, this film is not to be missed by anyone with even the slightest interest in hip-hop.
