Seafair Report: It's Fleet Week, and The Blue Angels are Coming

The Torchlight parade has wrapped up, the run is over, and now, it's nearly time for Seafair's grand finale which includes Fleet Week, and the flight of the Blue Angels.

Today marks beginning of Fleet Week, which, while not nearly as much of a crazy, sexy time as Sex and the City made it out to be, is still a pretty sweet time when sailors roam the streets, and excited families tour some of the U.S.'s finest naval craft. Between 1:45 and 2:45 p.m. today, onlookers on the waterfront will be able to watch the ships come in. They'll dock at Terminals 25 AND 46N, and Pier 66. After that, the Navy will be kind enough to allow folks to check out the boats at the following times:

Thursday, 8/4 - 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Friday, 8/5 - 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, 8/6 - 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Sunday, 8/7 - 12:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

And while the men and women in white descend on the city, the skies of Seattle will also be populated by some of the nation's finest. Just as they do each summer, The Blue Angels, a group of high-flying group of U.S. Navy and Marine pilots will perform synchronized aerial demonstrations, terrifying dogs and delighting folks of all ages. The team consists of 16 volunteers, who offer their time to entertain the masses, as well as increase visibility for these branches of the military. But before these enthusiastic officers can take to flight in Seafair's 3 official shows, which take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, they have to practice. And they need I-90 to do it. Starting tomorrow, the bridge will be closed intermittently throughout the weekend. Here's the full schedule of closures:

Thursday, 8/4 - 9:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., as well as 1:15 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.
Friday, 8/5 - 12:45 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.
Saturday, 8/6 - 12:45 p.m. - 2:40 p.m
Sunday, 8/7 - 12:45 p.m. - 2:40 p.m

These closures also mark the times of day when Seattleites and Eastsiders can look to the skies and see some feats of flight--or open the window, and hear the roar of jet engines.
