POWER IN NUMBERS: Hey writers! Are you struggling with finding the discipline to write? Do you need motivation to complete that project? Are you wrestling with rejection? Trying to discover why that piece just isn't working? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then the FilmSchool's "All Writing and No Whining: The Writing Group of Your Dreams" may have the answers to help you. The event will feature a panel discussion with established, professional writers Priscilla Long, Waverly Fitzgerald, David Margolis, and Sonya Leawith. They will look at how to create writing groups for producing work, for critique and for sending out material.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Fruit Bat's latest album, Tripper, tells some stories that Eric Johnson has been fine-tuning and reflecting upon for sometime. While making the record, Johnson spent most of his time working alone in the studio. The result is a quasi concept record about taking some journeys à la On The Road with the drifter Tony the Tripper, that Johnson met on a train 10 years ago on his way to Olympia, WA. To celebrate the release of the new record, Fruit Bats are performing at Easy Street Records tonight.

HISTORY LESSON: Speakeasies are back in a big way, folks. They're cool and retro and PBS is airing a documentary miniseries on the subject of Prohibition this Fall. Today at the Muesum of Museum of History and Industry the author of Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition will appear with the directors of the PBS miniseries, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. Eric Liu will moderate a panel discussion on the political and social upheaval that surrounded the constitutional ban on alcohol and explore what lessons it holds for today's political climate. Below is a preview for the series which will air in October.
