Seattlest is taking The Long Walk
Right now, even as you sit there reading this, a slow-moving mob is traveling intentionally towards Magnuson Park. 50 some odd folks, following foot trails and backwoods paths to tonight's campsite. By the time they stop, they will have covered 12 miles, and tomorrow they plan to do 15. They are participants in The Long Walk, a project led by local artist Susan Robb.
The title isn't being coy. At Sunday's end, the 50 walkers will have covered 45 miles, using available trails, paths, ferries, under their own steam. It's long-form moment creation, what Robb calls a "social sculpture" in the small survival guide she sends to all the participants. Which we've seen, because the author of this very piece will be one of them.
We wish him well.
If you would like to check in on us, and have a lovely time while doing so, all are invited to join us tomorrow (Friday, July 29th) at 8:00 p.m. at McCormick Park in Duvall, Washington for an evening of place-based sound broadcast by the Seattle Phonographers Union and Hollow Earth Radio, a cappella enchantment by The Bicycle Choir, grass braiding with Sarah Kavage, and a participatory “play the environment” exercise lead by Todd Shalom. See you on the other side.
