Can't Miss It: Thursday
CALL IT: Remember those “choose your own adventure” books? Remember how much you cheated when reading those? You looked ahead - don’t deny it. Well there’s no cheating with Joseph Scrimshaw’s interactive play Adventures in Mating. The audience plays the role of fate for two characters on their first date. You decide whether they choose red wine or white, soup or salad, life or death. No pressure.
8:00 p.m. // Theater Schmeater 1500 Summit Ave // $15-$18
YE OLDE CURIOSITY: Northwest Film Forum’s Secret Country movie series continues tonight with, well, it’s a surprise. One thing we do know for sure is that the night starts with music by Dave Harmonson, a Northwestern singer, guitar picker, and steel player. After that comes the secret film that will star either Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, or Rick Astley. Probably not Rick Astley.
7:00 p.m. // NWFF 1515 12th Ave // $6-$9
THURSDI GRAS: Two New Orleans-style funk bands take to Tractor tonight for what’s sure to be the most energized show in town. Big Easy band Big Sam’s Funky Nation headlines. Band leader Big Sam Williams is the former trombonist for the world-renowned Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and he’s known as much for his dancing skills as his brass playing. Also playing is Seattle’s own party-jazz band, Tubaluba. Not dancing is not an option.
9:00 p.m. // Tractor Tavern 5213 Ballard Ave NW // $15
