Week Around The Ists - July 24th, 2011

From SFist: "Lombard Street" by Bob Horowitz.
Shanghaiist was horrified by a high-speed rail collision that has killed at least 35 and injured over 20.

Chicagoist's readers were very vocal about Mayor Rahm Emanuel's decision to send his children to private school in the fall.

LAist saw a controversial (and stupid) campaign from dairy producers proclaiming milk as the cure-all for PMS end its run early.

SFist felt a protest over the fatal police shooting of a man was misguided, because the man first shot at the police, prompting their gunfire. And then it turned out the gunman shot himself.

It was a very hot week at Bostonist as days of 90+ degrees turned into a memorable 103 degree day. Bostonist also joined in mourning the loss of Myra Kraft.

DCist got the sad, official word: it’s going to be yet another panda cub-less year at the National Zoo. (Not the best way to end one of the hottest weeks in the city’s history.)

Only in New York: Gothamist was amazed by a video of a woman getting into a fight with another subway passenger...while her child rolls out of the train car in her stroller.

Austinist spoke with a bartender who is going to get the city interested in “underdog spirits” like rum and gin.
