Seattle Named Third Most Creative City in the Nation

Every year Creative Cities publishes their annual Vitality Index report. The report quantifies 35 US cities based on their overall creativity and vitality. This year, Seattle is number three!

The Vitality Index measures a city's greatness using a number of factors, including "a vibrant downtown, an engaged populace, educational opportunity, economic sustainability, good transport, diversity of population and opportunity, and a citizenry that embraces its history and culture."

Using cultural and demographic research, online surveys with citizens and questionnaires to city officials, they created a list.

The Emerald City beat all but two US cities. Chicago topped the list, New York ranked second and our metropolis rounds out the top three. What with our natural beauty, economic prosperity, richness and breadth of cultural institutions, vibrant nightlife, sense of place and unexpected attributes it is no surprise that we rule!

A vibrant and creative city attracts tourists, fosters artists, appeals to highly mobile young and talented workers and ensures economic prosperity and quality of life. So, way to go Seattle.

In honour of this great achievement, we ask that go out there and do something to make it true. Make some art, write something, go participate in your community, enjoy the outdoors. Keep being the thing, the people, which makes this such an amazing place to be.
