Can't Miss It: The Weekend
CYCLES: Cyclefest & Bikemania take over Magnuson Park this evening for a full free evening of all things pedaled. This includes a high-flying BMX stunt show by top pro rider Nick Halsey and crew, carnival games, a treasure hunt, a bike parade, Tour de France's Stage 19 on the big screen, and Orkestar Zirkonium out on the grass. Clip in.
Friday 5:00 p.m. // Magnuson Park // FREE
ROCK THE BLOCK: You'll probably want to avoid Capitol Hill all this weekend unless you have a ticket to the Block Party, the annual street shutdown and music festival along Pike and Pine. Fan favorites Woods, Campfire Ok, The Pharmacy, Grynch, and Battles join dozens more over three days and countless venues. It's going to be a tallboy of hipsters, sure, but the line-up is transcendent.
Friday 3:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. // Capitol Hill // $27.50 (1-day pass. 3-day passes are sold out)
URGENT AND HEAVY: If you want to get away from it all, then maybe a camping trip up north is in order. And if you're like us, you probably want your nature with a strong dash of radical expression. Which means there's no better place for you than Critical Massive, our regional version of Burning Man, held at the Lake Associates Recreation Club in Mount Vernon. Just like the Man, Critical Massive is an experiment in self-reliance and creativity. You'll need to bring your own supplies (check this prep PDF), safety net, and gifts. A set of faerie wings and some welding gloves wouldn't hurt either.
Now - Sunday // Lake Associates Recreation Club // $125 at the gate (cheaper tickets can be found in usual and unusual venues)
