Can't Miss It: Tuesday
Watch this hobo shoot stuff and save the people of Hope Town.
PLATFORM 9¾: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 came out on Friday. The final Harry Potter movie. That's all folks. No new movies. No new books. It's time to finally accept that your Hogwarts letter isn't coming. We must continue on with our ordinary, non-magical muggle lives. But don't let this post-Potter depression get you down for too long! Geeks Who Drink are hosting their second annual Geeky Cauldron at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville. Grab your wands, dust off your copy of Hogwarts: A History, and get your potions kit out because it's a quiz night devoted J.K. Rowling's world of witchcraft and wizardry. Teams are limited to six players, and there's an admission fee of $5. The winning team may not get tickets to the Quidditch World Cup but they will take home a cash prize between $200 and $500.
7:30 pm // Redhook Brewery // $5
GRINDHOUSE MOVIE NIGHT: Hobo With A Shotgun started out as a fake movie. Jason Eisener made a trailer for the fake movie as part of a promotional contest that coincided with the release of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's double feature Grindhouse. It won the contest and was such a hit on the internet that they decided to make it into a feature-length. And now it is one. Apparently this is a very violent movie about an evil man ruining a town and killing everyone and the only hobo with a shotgun who can save them all. So, exactly what you'd expect from a movie called Hobo With A Shotgun.
9:30 pm // Central Cinema // $6-$8
SLAMMIN': Each Tuesday night at Re-Bar the Seattle Poetry Slam hosts an evening jam packed with word-y goodness. Here's how the night goes: 8:30 pm starts the open mic portion, then a featured poet takes the stage at 9 pm (tonight the featured poet is Rachel Rocky Bernstein) and at 10 pm the poetry war also known as the "slam" begins. The rules for the slam are simple: 1. Poets must perform their own original work; 2. No props, costumes, or musical accompaniment; and 3. Poets have three minutes to perform their piece. Each poet earns a score awarded by randomly-picked judges from the audience. The winning poets get prizes and a chance at representing Seattle on the national and international level. Prepare yourself for a battle royale of words and poems and thoughts and feelings.
