Can't Miss It: Monday
"IT'S A TERRIBLE MOVIE": If you're the kind of person who sees those four words and immediately start relishing the idea of witnessing another Burlesque, then 1983's The Lonely Lady is for you. Part of Central Cinema's Bad Movie Art series, this winner of the Golden Raspberry for Worst Movie of the Year stars Pia Zadora, fresh off her controversial Golden Globes victory, was intended to be a serious statement on the sexual repression of women (based on a Harold Robbins novel), instead ends up being creepily exploitative. See why this movie has earned its standing in the upper echelon of "Wow, That Just Happened" movies.
Tonight at 7:00p.m. // Central Cinema, 1411 21st Avenue // $10
ANSWERS TO THE PONDEROUS: Misha Glouberman and Sheila Heti have made a career out of asking ponderous, difficult to quantify questions ("Is wearing a suit a good way to quit smoking? Is monogamy a trick?") and then providing the answers. Touring behind the publication of their book The Chairs Are Where The People Go, tonight they bring their popular Trampoline Hall Lecture Series to Seattle's Town Hall. As part of the evening, they will sit on a panel along with Three Imaginary Girls' Chris Estey and The Stranger's Lindy West, for an evening's worth of observations on human behavior.
Tonight at 7:30p.m. // Town Hall, 1119 8th Avenue // $5
THE WEIRD, THE CAMPY, THE CASUALLY OFFENSIVE: It's time once again for the masterminds behind the filmic free-for-all that is Collide-o-Scope to bring us their monthly amalgamation of films, commercials, marketing tools, cartoons and other ephemera edited together for comedic effect. This month's entry, Collide-o-Scope: Summer Camp, focuses on the particularly western rite of passage: the pilgrimage to a remote location in order to commune with like-minded strangers. Plus, bacon flavored popcorn and $5 Sloppy Joes! (View the NSFW trailer on FB here.)
Tonight, doors open at 7:00p.m., viewing at 8:00p.m. // Re-bar, 1114 Howell Street // $6
