David Bazan & band Just like almost every other weekend has been since we can all remember, it's a little dreary and you aren't sure you feel like going out and doing anything. Then you look around for what shows are going on. If you see a few you're interested in and can't really decide, let us do that for you. Tonight is the veteran musician David Bazan with his semi-new and now fully broken in band. We caught their first show together at Bumbershoot last year and it didn't seem to be their first gig together, but there you have it. Clean and beautiful from the start. The next performance was Head and the Heart (HATH) opening for them at the Showbox last year. It was an incredibly fun show with HATH right in their element with the legendary Seattle rock singer as the headliner. The entire evening meshed into this fantastic fun folk and rock groove.
Rocky Votolato You can expect nothing less at tonight's show with Quasi and Rocky Votolato starting out the night. It's been quite some time since we've had a chance to see Rocky play. His name has continued to float around the Seattle music scene. However, save the once or twice yearly show at Neumos or occasional house show, his live performances in the Emerald City have been pretty sparse. Much to our detriment we might add. He seems to have been hard at work on a pretty constant touring schedule over the last few years and who are we to begrudge him that success. Needless to say, we're glad he's stopping back in our fair city tonight for is sure to be a great show. His classic singer/songwriter bare-bones sound is what we've been missing from our college days. You remember, that band your friends put together and goofed
Portland-based Quasi around in the garage with a couple guitars and drums. Put that with clear clean vocals, some meaningful lyrics and up the musicianship to ten and you've got Rock with his band.
Rounding out the musical veterans is Quasi. A Portland-based band, they've been around the Pacific Northwest scene for quite some time as well. With one member the former Sleater-Kinney drummer whom also played with the likes of Bright Eyes and Wild Flag and another having played bass with Elliot Smith in Heatmiser you really can't go wrong. Having not seen their live show, we're looking forward to what they show us.
