Tweeter of the Week: @ScarecrowVideo

From now until I forget to do it, I'm going to highlight my favorite Seattle Tweeter. Think of it like #FollowFriday, but less about getting followers for myself, and more about exposing Twitter accounts that are notable, humorous or informative--and always under 140 characters.

You'd have thought Netflix was asking for the first-born child of each of its users, based on the reaction it got from this week's announcement of a price hike. And while folks were complaining about the additional $6 it would cost for them to keep streaming and getting actual DVDs, the film buffs at Scarecrow Video were undoubtedly laughing it off. As Seattle's most well-loved indie video rental establishment, they've kind of already beat the odds. We're guessing it's because they're savvy at technology--which is why we're giving them this week's Tweeter of the Week award.

As you glaze over in front of a Redbox (because you angrily cancelled your Netflix, right? And you can't bring yourself to actually GO INTO a video store because you are lazy and anti-social), you frequently find yourself plum out of ideas. @Scarecrowvideo puts an end to the aimless staring, with awesome film suggestions, all day long. They'll let you know what's fresh out on DVD, what's in stock, and what to keep an eye out for. And, they also post updates about celebrity birthdays (hello, pub trivia winners) and this-day-in-film-history Tweets. Once you know what you want to watch, you can head to Scarecrow and get what you're looking for.

@Scarecrowvideo is a great local resource by an excellent local company. Congrats, Scarecrow! Way to stay current and super-useful, when even the most modern of technology is irritating the hipsters.

  • It's kind of funny/ironic/sad that you're telling people to use Scarecrow's recommendations to patronize redbox. Scarecrow is a video rental place - that's how they make money and stay in business. Shop local!

  •  I don't think that's actually what the author is saying. The opening sentence of the second paragraph imagines a person at the Redbox as a result of the Netflix price hikes; the closing one advises them to go to Scarecrow to rent a film once they know what they want to watch. It's kind of an awkward paragraph to be sure, but the way I read has a pro-Crow message...

(You're 110% spot-on about shopping local - dump Netflix AND Redbox!)
