How Much Do You Support Foxy Knoxy? The Amanda Defense Fund Wants You To Put a Dollar Amount On It

You never really know who your friends are until you're on trial for murder in Italy.
It's a known fact among news types: talk about Amanda Knox publicly, expect to be inundated with emails about her evilness--and her innocence. With so many bumps and blunders in the investigation and litigation of the Seattleite's involvement in the murder of Meredith Kercher, it's not surprising that the issue is polarizing, to say the least. And while many seem unconvinced either way, plenty of people have dedicated their lives to clearing her name. Enter the Amanda Defense Fund, a coalition of Knox supporters, who are putting on a benefit concert for the former UW student tonight.
Music for Amanda, which is part musical performance and part auction, takes place tonight at Showbox SoDo. The concert features a lineup of three mostly unknown local bands, each of which include at least on member who an alumni of Knox's Alma Mater, Seattle Prep, and is put on for one reason: to raise money for Knox. But the group isn't very forthcoming in their literature or website about where the money actually goes, leading us to wonder exactly how much support for the convicted killer is really worth to the people of her hometown.
Of course, Knox needs all the support she can get. Constantly cropping up in the headlines for other people's mistakes, it is undoubtedly demoralizing to have one's Winona Rider Shocked Face above the fold of tabloids and hate blogs--whether she did it or not. Add to it the acquaintances in Perugia who seem to love throwing her under the bus and that God forsaken film that showcased exactly how awful Hayden Panettiere is at feigning emotion, and we're quite sure she appreciates the gestures of her friends overseas.
Sure, plenty of people at home preach of her innocence, and of the injustice she received at the hands of the Italian courts. But does that translate financially? In a cash-strapped city amid steep budget woes, asking faraway and mostly unrelated folks to pony up $15 or more for a vague fund of "support" and "defense" might be a tall order.
Still, we're fascinated at the prospect, and hope that if we're ever snared in a SNAFU like Knox's, someone would set up a defense fund for us, too.
