Can't Miss It: The Weekend

DARK MAGIC: The last Harry Potter movie comes out next week. Why remind you now? So you'll have time to prepare, silly muggle. You can't go into the eighth and final movie without having taken the time to re-experience the first seven again. Think of all the nuance you would miss! The subtle shifts of relationships and alliances! The remarkable growth of the actors and depth of tone! Which is why you should thank the Ministry that the Cinerama exists. This weekend they will screen the first six Harry Potter films back-to-back. The seventh film will play all day Tuesday. Only then, after sitting through all nine showings, will you have some hope of understanding Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Sat July 9th & Sun July 10th 1:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m. // Cinerama // $6

SEAFOOD FEST: Ballard hosts the annual Seafood Fest all this weekend, bringing fishermen, their wares, and those who love fishermen and their wares, out into the streets. Families are invited to partake in live music, eat their fill at the salmon bbq, and tire their children out at the Kid Zone. Those of us rolling without minors will probably be at one of the two beer gardens, or hiding from the crowds inside the Tractor. You know, adult stuff. So come put some fish in your belly. It'll put hair on your chest. If that doesn't work, try the Maritime Ale. That stuff's delicious.
Saturday 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. // Market St. in Ballard // FREE

GET FRENCHED: Dabble in francophilia for a day or two at the Bastille Day Festival. Like Epcot before it, Seattle Center will tart up to give you into a full French experience. Complete with dance and theatrical performances, Citroën cars, French goods, foods, and wines, Bastille Day will have you speaking in romantic tongues by nightfall.
Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. // Seattle Center // FREE

COME SAIL AWAY: With the weather steadily improving, there's no better time to hop in a boat and tack across the lake. And if you're going to do it anyway, why not in a classic wooden boat? Thanks to the generosity of The Center for Wooden Boats, you can. As part of their Cast Off! program, visitors can reserve a spot to ride on the Admirable (a Bristol Bay Gillnetter), Amie (a Friendship sloop), Colleen Wagner (an Egret Sharpie), Discovery (a long-boat), Betsy D (a New Haven Sharpie), among others. The ships sail at 2 p.m., but the Center starts taking reservations at 10 a.m. and spots go fast as you would imagine. It's not every day you can ride a piece of history towards the horizon.

IN THE HOUSE: Seattle is up to its eyeballs in heartfelt, hometown hip-hop, courtesy of Macklemore and the like. Which isn't such a bad thing, but we think it's time you explored more of what's going on in this most excellent genre. Tonight, the artists' collective H.O.E. presents an evening of young, skillful rhymers and rockers, with a laundry list of talent on tap, including FICTITIOUS, Token Folk and Onry Ozzborn.
