Can't Miss It: Thursday

Carrie_Akre_Last_show.jpg HIGH NOTE: Carrie Akre, Queen of Seattle Music, Grunge Goddess, the definitive female voice of the 1990s, is leaving Seattle. Wish her a teary farewell at The Crocodile where she will take the stage one last time. Akre originally sang lead vocals for Seattle's Hammerbox before leading the group Goodness and later joining Mike McCready's The Rockfords. There's no perfect way to describe Akre's voice, so here, here, and here. Star Anna, another stunning local singer, is also on the ticket. Cannot miss.

KID IN THE HALL: Laughs Comedy Spot in Kirkland hosts Dave Foley. Foley starred in The Kids in the Hall and News Radio in the 90s, numerous movies and TV shows since, and as Bobby Fargo in The Sensible Traveler web series. We, like everyone else with a soul, loved Foley as the buttoned up but dry-humored Dave Nelson in News Radio. In The Kids in the Hall, Foley was often the even-keeled, mature seeming cast member, which always made sketches like this perfectly ironic.

8:30 p.m. // Laughs Comedy Spot 12099 124th Ave NE, Kirkland // $20

NEW MONEY: Tonight is the first performance of the stage production Aladdin, based on the 1992 Disney film. Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Spamalot, Elf: The Broadway Musical, My Fair Lady, etc.), Aladdin is as close to a sure shot at entertainment as anyone is likely to find. The production features all of the original music of the film as well as a never before heard song. Jonathan Freeman, who voiced Jafar in the animated film, plays Jafar onstage. Adam Jacobs is Aladdin, and Courtney Reed is Jasmine. Tickets are scarce for opening night, but there are still a few left. The play runs through July 31st.

8:00 p.m. // The 5th Ave Theatre // $40-$60
