Seattlest's Hero of the Day: The Person Who Braved Green Lake for Another Guy

This is the logo for King County's new "Wear It" campaign, which promotes life vests. Which are mandatory in rivers, but not lakes.
After a weekend like the one we just had, it's refreshing to get news that doesn't involve fire, fireworks, or fireworks-related injuries. It's even more awesome to read about a person who actually helped someone else.
Today's Hero of the Day comes courtesy of the Seattle Police Department, who reported this feel-good story.
The long and short of it is this: yesterday at Green Lake**, a 20-year-old (no gender given) spied a man who encountered an "unknown problem" and became unable to swim in the lake. The 20-year-old jumped in and saved the drowning man. SPD states in the press release that, were it not for the 20-year-old witness, the man would have been difficult to find in the murky lake, and would likely have drowned.
Whoever you are, 20-year-old, we applaud you. Thanks for proving the curmudeons wrong about your generation. You're no slacktivist--you saved a guys life.
**Question: would you swim in Green Lake? It is essentially a puddle of duck poop and dead fish, right? With some toxic algae? Is it possible that the "unknown problem" was that the man who almost drowned suddenly realized how repugnant the lake is?
