Fourth of July: What's Open, What's Closed
Happy Almost-Fourth-of-July, everyone! We know, it's great celebrating our country's birth with all that drinking, debauchery, grilled foods and flammables, but one fact remains: our lives don't shut down. As such, some of us will probably need to do some things this Independence Day that is not directly related to partying (some of us have to work, even!). At Seattlest, we are all about being able to get shit done, or at the very least picking up more beer. Here is a handy-dandy, although far from complete, guide to what is open and closed.
CLOSED:
- THE BANK. If you were planning on going to the bank on the 4th of July, don't. This is a no-brainer. The bank is always closed on occasions like this. Don't go to the bank.
- THE POST OFFICE. Your mail will not come on the 4th.
- THE LIBRARY. If you were planning on celebrating by holing yourself in the library, we guess you'll just have to stay home.
- CITY OF SEATTLE OFFICES. If you were planning on calling Pete Holmes on Monday, you will not reach him.
- COSTCO. If you want one of those gigantic bottles of Cook's to drink while you're watching the fireworks, or you need a cheese and meat party tray or something, don't wait until the last minute.
OPEN:
- THE LIQUOR STORE! Most will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you need to check whether or not your local one is open (you drunk!), the WSLCB has a list.
- GARBAGE AND RECYCLING SERVICES. No worries, all of your waste will be disposed of properly if you have Monday pick-up. The Fremont/Wallingford area disposal station will be closed, though, so you might want to wait until Tuesday to drop off all your party garbage if that's your local branch.
- MURDERMART. Saveway Market in Pioneer Square will be open until 11 p.m. Maybe. Maybe later. They're not sure.
- THE BUS. Don't drive home. The buses are running. King County Metro will be on Sunday schedule, and Sound Transit will be on holiday schedule.
- FERRIES! Well, some of them. Check the schedule.
- TRADER JOE'S. All of 'em are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- THE 5 POINT. We love the 5 Point! If you need a drink or perhaps a no huevos rancheros before or after the fireworks, it'll be nearby -- but we bet it's going to be packed.
- COFFEE. The West Seattle Blog reports that both Hotwire and C&P will be open. Vita wouldn't answer the phone. Some Ladro locations are open, including the flagship Queen Anne shop (but not including the Pine Street location).
- THE HOSPITAL. Your local emergency room is always open, all the time. If you get third-degree burns, please direct yourself there.
