Extra, Extra: Law and Order Edition

  • Police have a man in custody whom they believe to be the man who abducted and raped a young woman in Greenwood last week. The man was identified at a bar in Crown Hill, at the corner of 85th and 15th.
  • Speaking of people who will be in prison for a long time, Isaiah Kalebu testified today and, among other things, claimed that God had told him to attack his "enemies." He also confessed to killing woman who he is on trial for killing.
  • In other prison news, one inmate died during an escape attempt from Clallam Bay Correctional facility. The dead man was trying to flee on a forklift while a second prisoner, identified as the man who opened fire at the Tacoma Mall in 2005, held a prison guard hostage. No one managed to escape (alive), and only one corrections officer was injured, but not seriously.
  • And finally, in less serious, but still irritating news, the Yellow Pages are still fighting for their right to show up and turn to papery mush on your doorstep. Little to they realize that no one wants them.

"The man was identified at a bar in Crown Hill, at the corner of 85th and 15th."

    Hmmm.....
You mean the Crown Hill Pub?
    They're serving liquor now?  Hmmmmmm.....

  • Every other news outlet has referred to it as a bar, and, as it looks terrifying and is apparently frequented by alleged rapists, I can't speak to the exact wares offered.

    "...it looks terrifying..."

Hmmm, again.... perhaps ANY place that serves booze could be seen as "terrifying" to those who don't drink, but to me and many others who go by there regularly it's about as scary as a pair of old tennis shoes.  Most of the customers appear to be at least 60, if not older.  I've frequently seen the owner open the place up in the mornings - he's
got to be at least 75, if he's a day, definitely not the scary type.  Now, maybe if it was, say, a 'biker bar' with recognizable "rough" types, that might - might! - make it scarier to the general population than it already is - which is to say not much at all.  It's a stereotypical neighborhood joint, pretty much always has been.

As to "frequented by alleged rapists" comment, well.... I can't speak to that being so beyond the single person who's now in custody.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but... slanted, much?  0:>\=

  • Get back to me when you're a female under 5 ft. tall who lives in the neighborhood where a girl was abducted and raped. Then we can talk about what's "terrifying" to me.

Good point! However, in the interests of fairness and fighting
    fear,...

rather than flatly condemning all places where "something bad might happen" due to one's diminutive size, it may be helpful for one to visit places such as that while accompanied by others. Not a huge task, in the overall scheme of things, I think.
