King County Brings It to GiveBIG

Wow. Just wow. Yesterday's GiveBIG challenge with the Seattle Foundation turned into the most lucrative day of giving in King County's history. Over $3.5 million was donated between 7:00 am and midnight, and the Seattle Foundation will add another $500,000 of "stretch pool" funds on top of that. For you non-math-inclined, that's more than $4 million!

The stretch pool will be distributed amongst roughly 900 non-profits throughout King County based on the percentage of people who donated to each particular organization. The single organization to receive the most funds was the Seattle Public Library Foundation. Other major donations went to Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest, Tennis Outreach Programs, FareStart and The 5th Avenue Theatre Association.

So if you were one of the nearly 19,000 people who donated or Facebooked or Tweeted your support, congratulations on your effort! This is truly a fantastic city achievement!
