Tweeter of the Week: @WSDOT

From now until I forget to do it, I'm going to highlight my favorite Seattle Tweeter. Think of it like #FollowFriday, but less about getting followers for myself, and more about exposing Twitter accounts that are notable, humorous or informative--and always under 140 characters.

Whether you commute by bike, bus, car, foot or seaplane, it's good to know what's just around the riverbend. An accident on 520? A parade that's rerouting your bus? Planned construction closures? For all of that, we at Seattlest frequently turn to @WSDOT, the official Twitter account of the Washington State Department of Transportation.

WSDOT's Twitter account is super-helpful, especially in times like these, when one or more critical arterial is closed or rerouted more often than not. But we also love them for their humor and community engagement. They'll often re-tweet other users' informative missives, or send fun responses, like this one:

They also post stories, images of construction work, historical information and lots of other civic, time-waste-y stuff that are perfect for long work days or dull, stuck-in-traffic bus rides.

Thanks, @WSDOT, for keeping us both informed and entertained.

And don't forget to follow last week's Tweeter, @NMFASeattle, to keep up on all the news from the Neighborhood Farmer's Markets.
