Bill Callahan Brings Apocalype to Neumos Tonight
Bill Callahan
Bill Callahan has evolved considerably over two decades of releasing music. The enigmatic artist occupied the margins of the lo-fi movement in indie rock before ambling into musical territory all his own, a kind of borderland incorporating brambly country, nostalgic Americana, and traditional rock. Always present, though, have been Callahan’s penetrating lyrics rendering a psyche engaged in intense self-reflection.
The recently released Apocolypse features Callahan directing his gaze more outwardly. The record, featuring prominent themes of country, explores contentious foreign policy, entrenched exceptionalism, and mythologized manifest destiny. Unlike many artists trying to bring these issues into focus, though, Callahan delivers up a multifaceted vision that is open to interpretation.
Tonight represents an opportunity for you to come up with an interpretation of your own. Callahan performs at Neumos in support of Apocalypse. Drop by for thoughtful reflection touching on the personal and the political.
