Music Kickstarter of the Week: Bryan John Appleby

bja_2.jpg Have you ever had a dream, but didn't know how to go about funding it? Musicians all over the world have struggled with this dilemma since the beginning of time. But thanks to the digital age and a little creative thinking the solution has arrived in the form of Kickstarter.com.

If you haven't heard of Kickstarter, it's time to start reading up on what musicians, artists, inventors and creators of all walks of life have already discovered. This powerful service offers thousands of hopefuls the opportunity to essentially give the world an elevator pitch--to plead their case to Internet. And of course, if enough people believe in the idea (and are willing to put their cash toward it), dreams will come true. Typically, in return for investing, participants get a little slice of whatever is being created. With musicians, it's usually in the form of CDs, LPs, t-shirts, posters and possibly even a private house show, in some cases. Can you think of a better use of the Internet? You don't actually have to answer that.

We're excited to see so many Seattle artists taking advantage of this service, and even more stoked that it's helping them reach their goals. We want to help them get there, as well as help you discover new music. It's really a win/win situation.

Our favorite Kickstarter project this week comes to you from Bryan John Appleby. We've mentioned him a couple of times here and there, mostly for shows, and the occasional 'we love him and you should too' recommendations. So we were more than a little excited when he announced that his full-length album is almost complete; we've been waiting for quite a while now to get our hands on it, and the CD release show will be on July 30th at Columbia City Theater.

But here's the sticky part: he needs help to finish up the mastering, as well as a few other odds and ends. Which is were Kickstarter (and you fine people) come in. For as little as $2, folks can help make this album happen.

Congrats to Bryan, and we wish him the best of luck in looking for the funding he needs.

Don't forget to check back for our next Kickstarter project, we're really excited about this new series. Also, if there's an artist/musician that you're excited about and has set up a Kickstarter of their own drop us a line--we'd love to spotlight them.
