Homesick Ron Sims Returns to Seattle, Plus: A Poll!

As awesome as being deputy secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development was, Ron Sims says he's needed elsewhere: home.

Initially the announcement of the former King County Executive's departure led to some conjecture about the upcoming gubernatorial election, but Sims assured the Seattle Times that it's not in the cards right now -- although he has every intention of helping democratic Washington State US Representative Jay Inslee take office in 2012.

The Mayor's office, on the other hand, is a different matter, as Sims has "no idea" what he's doing in 2013, but in the interim he will be deputy secretary of the department of taking care of stuff around the house with his wife and family, which apparently has been accumulating a serious to-do list for him in the past couple of years. Plus, his 91-year-old mother is still here.

But who knows will happen when mayoral elections roll around, after he's spent some time with his wife, mom and kids? Sims is 62, so retirement is not out of the question -- and he did say he is "retiring from public service." But local politics is a filthy addiction. So, dear Seattlest readers, what do you think?
