The Round Turns Six, Let's Dance!

Round73web-red.jpg One of the undiscovered gems of Fremont (and Seattle for that matter) is the Fremont Abbey Arts Center. Not only do they offer affordable arts classes throughout the year to youth but open up the Abbey to adult opportunities as well. One of which is The Round that takes place on the first Tuesday of every month. We first discovered this magical gathering of music over two years ago and we are loath to miss even one ever since.

Basically the concept of a Round is having musicians from at least three different groups come in and sit together in a living style atmosphere (there are even couches available for seating). They individually play a song of their choosing from their catalog and the other musicians are encouraged to join in creating an experience that you will most likely never hear or see again. After attending one that included Hey Marseilles and Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside, I was hooked. In addition to musicians, beat poets take part in the "round" style speaking a poem as it comes to their turn. They can be light-hearted or heart-breaking you just never know, but they're always well done. To add a cherry on top, artists (from potters to painters) are putting together a creation of their own inspired by the evening as the show goes on. Their art is then sold to the highest silent auction bidder. It's a pretty incredible experience and leaves you feeling inspired yourself.

Speaking of not missing a Round, tonight it turns six years old! That's 73 shows, pretty darn fantastic. The lineup is another great meeting of musicians, artists and poets. Members of Hot Bodies in Motion, Motopony and Hanalee will be in attendance to serenade you in this unique evening of music and art. We'll be there, hope to see you there too.
