Can't Miss It: Tuesday
"One ring to rule them all." Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" turns 10 this year.
FUN WITH POETRY: 826 Seattle mostly helps kids develop their writing skills, but about once a month they try to help adults too with their "How to Write Like I Do" series. This month they are focusing on poetry and local poet Gary Copeland Lilley will be sharing his expert tips and poetry-writing wisdom. The workshop will explore "tactile and concrete details, syntax and diction, as well as other tools to use in making poems come alive". And it is appropriate for beginning and experienced poets.
7 pm // June 28. To celebrate this moment in cinema history, various theaters in Seattle will be showing the trilogy throughout the month of June. Tonight, you can catch "The Fellowship of the Ring" at Pacific Place. The screening includes a special introduction from Peter Jackson, pre-taped from the set of "The Hobbit" (and maybe some teaser footage!) and 49 minutes for extended footage. Protip: Bring provisions - you know, since the additions of extra footage means the film is now approximately 5 million hours long.
7 pm // AMC Pacific Place // $12.50
IT'S FOR A GOOD CAUSE: In memory of Gilda's Club member June Draeger-Otis, the Triple Door is hosting a fundraising event for Gilda's Club Seattle. The non-profit, named in honor of legendary comedienne Gilda Radner, provides free support services for people of all ages living with cancer. The event will feature performances by American Idol's Sanjaya Malakar, singer-songwriter Kristin Allen-Zito, and old-time stringband RedDog (Doug Yule, Cary Lung, and Tom Collicott). And the silent auction will include a wide variety of items, including a framed photo of the current Saturday Night Live cast - autographed by the entire cast, items signed by American Idol finalists, sporting event tickets, a special package for the new EMP Nirvana exhibit (including items autographed by Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic), and more.
9 pm // Triple Door // $25
