Tonight! Celebrate the End of SIFF With YouTube and Drinking
Life In a Day still courtesy of SIFF.
We know this sounds like an ordinary Sunday night for you -- two drinks and some YouTube videos -- but SIFF is closing for the year. For real. And because we have such an amazing film festival in our city, we owe it to ourselves to see it off right.
Starting out at the Cinerama, which has been unfortunately underutilized in this year's festival, SIFF will be showing Life In a Day, which shows what roughly 80,000 people around the world do all day, as shown on YouTube. Ridley Scott organized the whole shebang, and it's a pretty safe, albeit uncompelling, choice. But such is the closing-night gala. It's not about having your mind blown, it's about sending off a festival that gave us amazing films like The Future, Simple Simon and Page One -- and for those of us without the patience for the film, there's still the afterparty at the Pan Pacific Hotel. It has food from John Howie of Seastar and everyone gets two drink tickets, but again, that's not what it's about. It's about the films and the film-goers you just spent the last four weeks with. So go; you owe it to your city.
Plus, if it's anything like the opening night gala you will end up on the dance floor with the best people in Seattle by the time 11:00p.m. rolls around. Mark my words.
