Seattlest Recommends: MOHAI Crawl

For over 50 years now, the Museum of History and Industry has quietly worked their magic on Seattle-area residents. Local history isn't always an easy sell, but the MOHAI has consistently found ways to make the stories of Seattle's past compelling through excellent curation and inventive cross-marketing (historians gotta get their name out there too, y'all).

It's no surprise, then, that in order to celebrate the MOHAI's upcoming move to South Lake Union in 2012, museum coordinators have set up an event that promises to tickle the fancies of both your brain and liver - the MOHAI Crawl.

Beginning at 5pm, five restaurants in South Lake Union will transform themselves into 1920s-style speakeasies, complete with vintage drinks, fashion, and discounts. The five businesses - Bad Monkey Bistro, re:public, Brave Horse Tavern, Daniel's Broiler and Serious Pie II - span the spectrum in terms of classiness and atmosphere, so those put off by South Lake Union's sometimes upscale dining have nothing to worry about.

This being a MOHAI event, the crawl will also feature plenty of opportunities to get your learn on while you get your drink on. Several famous figures from Seattle's past will be stationed at each restaraunt, including Bertha Knight Landes, the first female mayor of any major US city (yay Seattle!) and a major proponent of prohibition (boo Seattle!) Each restaurant will also offer a passport, and an individualized stamp - collecting all five will put you in a position to win some serious historical swag, including a free membership to the MOHAI.

We here at Seattlest firmly believe that scholarship and partying hard aren't mutually exclusive, but are in fact two sides of the same coin. The MOHAI Crawl may be the perfect opportunity for you, humble reader, to discover this fact for yourself.
