Today in True Crime: Remains Bring Resolution in 39-Year-Old Mystery
22-year-old Kerry May-Hardy disappeared from Capitol Hill in June of 1972. Today, authorities confirmed that remains discovered near Roslyn, Washington matched a DNA sample provided by Ms. May-Hardy's family, bringing some measure of closure after nearly 40 years.
The disappearance had been examined by police for possible connections to two infamous cases: that of Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer, and serial killer Ted Bundy, but investigators are so far alleging no connection to either murderer.
Workers digging a trench for a new water line discovered the remains in September, but early attempts at identification met with no success. The May-Hardy family had given a DNA sample to investigators of the Green River killings during the 90s, and it was this sample that led, at last, to a match. Authorities will be continuing their investigation of Ms. May-Hardy's death.
