Your AM Cheer-Up: 4Culture Bill Passes!
File this squarely under good news. Strike that, file this under great news. ESSB 5834, the bill which allows King County to direct a portion of its lodging tax dollars towards the arts and heritage agency 4Culture, has passed!
This means that 4Culture, who fund and support over 500 organizations in King County, including museums, heritage organizations, artists, nonprofits, and so many cool and important things we can't even list them all, will keep investing in our community.
This means that the economic impact of these industries, calculated to be in the millions, will continue to foster vibrancy and contribute to the health of our overall economy. By attracting creative workers and the employers that hire them, creating jobs, supporting related industries such as hospitality and making our region a tourist hot spot the arts mean business and strength for our city. This bill helps keep that economic development engine running.
This means that fine artists, filmmakers, playwrights, painters, sculptors, actors, event producers, dancers, performance artists, writers, musicians, poets, spoken word artists...you get the point, won't lose an invaluable resource for funding in King County and can keep doing their thang knowing that there is institutionalized support for the work they do to keep our city a hopping place to live.
And this means that the tireless work of citizen activists who care about this stuff paid off. We did our part, you did yours and the hard-working Advocate4Culture coalition busted their asses to make damn sure this bill passed.
Pat yourselves on the backs, friends. Then get immediately back to making, doing, seeing, and being all the things that make Seattle an incredible city.
