Weekend Sports Roundup: Heads Up Edition
We're Going Streakin': Last weekend, the bad weather in Cleveland didn't just rain out two of the Mariners' games, it also put and end to their 6-game losing streak. Since then, the Ms have taken 6 out of their last 7 games, and they are currently riding the wave of a 5-game win streak. Our pitching staff was in fine form against the Padres over the weekend. Bedard and Pineda both threw 9 strikeouts, in Friday's 4-1 victory and Saturday's 4-0 win respectively, while Felix Hernandez managed to make their numbers seem pedestrian when he put up 13 strikeouts in Sunday's 6-1 matchup. Here's hoping that Vargas will uphold the team's pitching prowess as he takes the mound tonight against the Minnesota Twins.
Offense/Defense: Do you remember what you were doing in 2004? Jeff Parke does. It was the last time he scored a goal in a Major League Soccer game. So, when the defender headed the ball past Kansas City goalie Jimmy Nielsen in the last moments of stoppage time Saturday, Parke was probably just as excited as the Sounders fans watching the game. His second career goal was enough to give the Sounders the win and keep the team well-situated in League rankings.
