The Results Are In: We're Voting on the Tunnel
Following up on her ruling last week that the tunnel referendum couldn't be blocked by a lawsuit, Judge Laura Middaugh decided today that the city will get a chance to vote on section six of the City Council's ordinance approving the deep-bore tunnel as their preferred Viaduct Replacement Project option. She says she couldn't find a case that would set precedent for a situation like this, but that the ultimate goal is to let voters have their input. The referendum, filed by anti-tunnel group Protect Seattle Now, will be on August's ballot.
One of the biggest, most hotly-contested issues in the upcoming election, other potential ballot measures for August concerning the Viaduct Replacement Project include an initiative, also currently pending a court decision, and a potential surface/transit option measure.
