Divas, Dancing and Drinking at Open Space on Vashon Island

burlesco.jpg Open Space for Arts & Community is bringing the sexy back to Vashon Island (unless it’s somehow always there…), with the new, shiny show, Burlesco Notturno, an event essentially bursting with distinctive burlesque talent from all over the Northwest.

Seattle has always been a solid foundation for the burlesque community, with performances glittering everywhere from The Triple Door to Teatro ZinZanni to The Can Can—and now Mme X (of Teatro Zinzanni, the Moisture Festival, and founder of Open Spaces) hosts with former Vashon resident-extraordinaire, Kevin Kent. Mme X has been involved in physical theater for 23 years, and Kent has been a regular burlesque figure since the 80’s, and opened the first Teatro Zinzanni show in Seattle. Other featured performers include vocalist Rebecca Spencer of Phantom-The Las Vegas Spectacular (and about a billion other things), aerialist Esther Edelman, co-founder of UMO Ensemble and Aviatrix, and cellist Jami Sieber.

And of course there will be dancing! Inga Ingenue, AKA “The Little Blonde Bomb”, and Miss Indigo Blue plan on sharing a healthy dose of the sass and skill that makes burlesque more exciting than your mother's idea of dancing (sorry mom).
Essentially it’s a night of gaping at implausible talent, surrounding oneself with music, and spending an evening on another piece of land—could be quite the adventure.

Saturday, 8 p.m. // Open Spaces for Arts & Community // 21+ $20, tickets at brownpapertickets.com, booksbytheway, Vashon bookshop
