Today's the Day for SB 5958, 4Culture and Darn Near Everything Cool in King County

We've been keeping you posted about the legislative fight to keep 4Culture, the cultural service agency in King County, alive and kicking. Well, today is D-Day for SB 5958, the bill that ensures the revenue stream for this vitally important cultural player is retained.

We at Seattlest, and you our refined and cultured readers, are huge fans (whether you know it or not) of the work 4Culture does. They support hundreds of organizations through funding, workshops, trainings, advocacy and programs in four distinct areas - arts, heritage, preservation and public art. From the cultural giants to piddly little micro-groups, 4Culture does amazing work to keep our town a wonderful, exciting, inspiring and creative place to live.

Without them, Seattle would be a much less vibrant region, not only in the esoteric contributions of the work they facilitate, but economically. Their four work areas represent tens of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars to our economy - both in revenue and tourist-driven dollars. It is a big deal.

Next time you go to see a play, a lecture, a concert, a locally made film, a book reading, go on a historical tour, see a piece of public art or go to any kind of museum, you should check into their literature and read about how that the thing you are enjoying is being supported by 4Culture. Their significance to our region can not be overstated and the loss of their work would be a devastation. We encourage you to follow this link to Advocate4Culture's website, who will provide you with an easy-peasy route to contact your Senators and let them know how important preserving 4Culture is to you. If you can copy and paste, you can save art in Seattle.

Do it today, do it now and encourage others to do the same. If not us, then who?
