James Beard: Seattle Gets The Shaft
Yesterday afternoon, the Seattle food scene had their eyes on the live streaming of the esteemed James Beard Awards in New York City. Twitter waves full of live tweeting. Attendees in the midst representing Seattle: Angela & Ethan Stowell, Nancy Leson, Brian Canlis, Leslie Kelly, Matt Dillon and a few others.
Eleven Madison Park, the former home to Canlis' Jason Franey (Food & Wine Best New Chef) won Outstanding Restaurant. Brian Canlis of course prepped for the night's ceremony there with a glass of champagne.
As far as how Seattle fared, well better luck next time. In the epic battle between the Seattle and Portland food scene, the city to the south of us was the star of the evening. Andy Ricker of Pok Pok won Best Chef Northwest. Everyone had their eyes on Stowell as the clear winner of this category.
Seattle did have a moment, our beloved and well deserving Farestart, won Humanitarian of the year. Chris Canlis and Tom Douglas presented the award at the ceremony. Sadly our epic restaurateur Tom D did not win Oustanding Restaurateur.
