Epic Rock: Mogwai Plays Sold Out Showbox Tonight

Mogwai’s sound is a study in extremes. The Glasgow band excels at delivering ethereal synth arrangements alongside massive guitar riffs and crashing drums. The result is a gauzy, atmospheric aesthetic that gives way to periodic sonic eruptions. It's a blend of the demur and fierce beloved by the introspectively inclined who like their music to rock.

Mogwai has amassed an impressive oeuvre over their 15 years, including 2011’s epically titled Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will. Their seventh full-length, released on Sub Pop after a split with longtime label Matador, the album features the five-piece largely staying faithful to long-favored musical tropes of their past. Longtime listeners will be reassured to find a new batch of carefully constructed songs that often take time to fully develop.

Tonight, Mogwai faithful will jam the Showbox to revel in the vast musical spaces of the band’s live sound. The group is known for teasing out songs’ slow build and release during shows to produce triumphal sonic heights. Many fans report concert reveries approximating religion.

Tonight's show is sold out, so if you don’t have a ticket you’ll have to craigslist your way in. Given Mogwai's track record, it's likely to be worth the effort. The Errors open.

Tonight @ Showbox at the Market// Doors 8pm // SOLD OUT
