Nickelsville on the Move Again

"Nickelsville," a roving camp for the Seattle area's homeless is moving again. The city of Seattle offered the group an extension on the permit at their current site, at a former fire station on 127th Street in Lake City, but on May 15th, the group is moving to an undisclosed location.

Residents hoped to move to SoDo, to what was once a Sunny Jim Peanut Butter factory. The city has been lukewarm on this plan, citing the environmental unsoundness of the space. The proposed extension at the Lake City space would've lasted until at least July 15th. In 2005, the city announced a plan to eradicate homelessness by 2015.
