Broadway Farmers Market Opens in New Location on Sunday
With the dreary weather outside, you might forget that it is the BEGINNING OF FARMERS MARKET SEASON! Hooray! The Broadway Farmers Market opens on Sunday at its new location, along Broadway in front of Seattle Central Community College. As is logical for those who aren't farm-folk, it starts at a leisurely 11 a.m.
The sweet thing about going opening weekend? Goodies. Whatcom County's Sunseed Farm is providing treats, seeds and plant starters (optimal for those of us without seed-planting know-how) to the first 200 attendees.
Opening ceremonies also include speakers from the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (the organization that puts together this and other farmers markets) and various Capitol Hill organizations, plus a market blessing--because this is Capitol Hill, it will be performed by the illustrious Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. The Seattle Central Community College Jazz Ensemble will play at noon.
The Broadway Farmer's Market will be open every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through December 18, and features exclusively goods that are produced or grown in Washington State. On food stamps? They accept EBT/Quest cards, plus WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons.
Also, opening weekend is Mother's Day. Bring your produce-lovin' mom.
