Can't Miss It: Tuesday
FESTIVAL SEASON IS UPON US: Festival season is starting to rev up. National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) wrapped up this weekend and The Langston Hughes African American Film Festival got started. The festival's opening night was this past Saturday and LHAAFF continues until this Sunday May 8. Films are being screened at a couple different venues around the city, but mostly at Central Cinema. Today they are screening Revolution 67 at 4 pm. The film looks at the revolutionary Newark, NJ of 1967 and compares it to the Newark, NJ of today. You can also check out Children of God at 7 pm. The film is set against the backdrop of a nation grappling with violent homophobic crime and offering a scathing examination of the underlying hatred for gays rampant in Caribbean societies.
4 pm & 7 pm // Central Cinema // $8 (each)
THIS IS A WARNING: Charlie Sheen will be in the greater Puget Sound area today. His tour is making it's Northwest stop in Everett. This piece of information is to serve only as a warning - Charlie Sheen is on the loose. He could be in your neighborhood. He is definitely engaging in a number of unsavory activities that you don't want your children exposed to. He has made a number of really poor life choices and he says really inane things, yet people still think he's cool or something. Therefore, his fans are also to be considered dangerous. They too are on the loose. Do not go anywhere near the Comcast Arena if you want to avoid this shit show. Consider yourself warned.
8 pm // Comcast Arena // Do not give him your money
OR YOU COULD CHOOSE TO SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC: Instead of wasting time with Charlie Sheen, you could choose to support talented individuals that actually contribute to society and are from Seattle. Today is the release of the very much anticipated Helplessness Blues (Fleet Foxes' follow-up to their critically acclaimed self-titled debut LP). Fleet Foxes are also playing a sold-out show at the Moore Theatre tonight and then heading out on a big tour. However, in not-sold-out-yet show news, local band and Kurt Bloch's latest project Thee Sgt. Major III is playing at Neumos with The Femurs and The Calligraphers. Thee Sgt. Major III has one album out called Idea Factory. The music has elements of 60s pop and punk rock fused with Bloch's signature guitar riffs and songwriting.
8 pm // Neumos // $8
