At Long Last: Seattle Fashion Week Begins Tomorrow

Many, many Seattleites were disappointed by April's record low temperatures--mostly because it meant no drinking on patios and crappier visits to the Farmers Market. But for me, the true sadness of last month's dismal days was the postponing of spring fashion. The natty ladies and gents of the city remained condemned to and endless cycle of boots, sweaters, and various combinations of trench/rain/over/coats. But this week, whether the weather likes it or not, it's time to step out. Because it is Fashion Week.

No, it's certainly no Mercedes Benz in New York, and I won't bother going into details about Seattle's on-off relationship with fashion because, odds are, you've heard it before. But what I can say is that Seattle's Fashion Week does, at times, do it right--if you're willing to look past the fact that many of the events are held at places like Trinity. And Citrus Ultra Lounge. And King Cat. And really, it's the thought that counts.

Tomorrow night kicks off with an all-ages (albeit invite-only) screening of "Bridesmaids," which doesn't seem like the most grand way to get things started.

If you only make it to one event, I highly recommend the trunk show on Saturday, May 7. Featuring lots of fresh, seasonal looks, this is by far the most accessible and interactive day on the schedule. It's at Club Sur, and you can save $5 on admission by going here before May 6.

Not thrilled on the idea of perusing brand-new pieces by awesome young designers? Check out SFW's website for the full-line up and see what's right for you. Then buck the tights and boots and get ready for Spring.

  •  This is Gabriel, the Exec. Producer of Seattle Fashion Week.  I just want to say thank you for your supports and I hope you enjoyed the rest of the SFW.

Regarding to the venue that we chose to held our events, since we are all volunteer for SFW (yes, including myself) and work with very low budget, I work with what we can get at low cost, plus there are only very few places here in Seattle that meets the basic requirements when it comes to venue, mainly basic stage, light and sound system.

As for the movie preview goes, it was an extra perk and something fun for our staffs, models, volunteers, designers, sponsors and vendors get together and have a good time, it has nothing to do with fashion shows and that's why it was by invitation only. :)

    Gabriel-

What a great explanation! That totally makes sense, and we definitely
understand the volunteer component. Thank you so much for taking the time to
clarify. Hope y'all enjoyed the week and that it all went off without a
    hitch!
