Library News For You and Yours

librarycard1.gif There’s some news on the Library Front!
Since Seattle’s previous City Librarian, Susan Hildreth, was tapped by President Obama to head the Institute for Museum and Library Services in Washington D.C. (kind of a big deal), there’s been a national hunt for her replacement—and it’s finally down to three finalists for the position.
The Seattle Public Library board of trustees has narrowed the list down to:

*Charles M. Brown, Director of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Charlotte, NC
*Nancy Ledeboer, Director of Pima County Public Library, Tucson, AZ
*Marcellus Turner, Executive Director, Jefferson County Public Library, Lakewood, CO

And you can meet them! In the flesh!
Along with final interviews, meetings and such, the candidates will meet the public during an informal open house at Seattle Central Library—Ledeboer at 4 p.m. on Monday the 2nd, Brown at 4 p.m. on the 3rd, and Turner at 4 p.m. on the 4th of May.

The board is then scheduled to discuss the candidates the following day, and hopefully come to a decision quickly.
Our library facilities are something to gloat about considering that over 14 million people visited The Seattle Public Library last year, and the branches always offer a plethora of events, activities, and some kick-ass speakers. Seattle’s Library was even awarded five stars among large libraries in the 2010 Library Journal Index of Public Library Service. Just saying—it’s no wonder we’re considered a smart city.
