Taco "Soda Fountain of the Future" Time Now Wants to Help You Eat Right
Taco Time's new Health Coach. She is holding apples.
Always the ground-breaker, their soda machine, the Coca-Cola Freestyle "Soda Fountain of the Future" offered "products that have never before been offered in the U.S."--and now they are again demonstrating their innovation in the fast food industry by being "the first to offer complimentary nutrition advice to guests." Presumably, this would include advising against partaking in their five flavors of Vault (although the sparkling Dasani would be a better, albeit more boring, choice).
Taco Time representatives are also careful to point out that they're the first Puget Sound "quick service" restaurant to offer gluten-free items in their "Fit Hit" menu, which debuted almost silently in February, in the shadow of what Paul Constant over at The Stranger dubbed "The Ferrari of Corn Syrup." The menu also offers many items under 400 calories.
The health coach, Deborah Enos, who you might know from her fine contributions to The Costco Connection**, says that she is "honored" to be a part of the Fit Hit menu. “I love that Taco Time chops, slices and cooks its food fresh every day. Fresh is important to Taco Time and fresh is important to me and my family." If that is all it takes, more power to you.
Don't mistake this attitude as a hatred for Taco Time--I love Taco Time. But as someone who goes to Taco Time because I want mexi-fries inside a burrito and doesn't eat at Taco Time to be healthy, I doubt this will change my lifestyle much.
Whatever you want to do, guys. Just remember that 400 calories does not necessarily make a healthy meal, especially if it is paired with a 32 oz. Orange Coke.
** Okay, I kid, she has also had work in USA and Parade, and she has written a couple of books.
