Katie Morgan Comedy
Five months ago, Katie Morgan did her first-ever stand up comedy sketch before a group of friends, and she was shaking in her bones. A few weeks ago, Morgan not only headlined, but sold out two back-to-back comedy shows at Capitol Hill's Odd Duck Studio.
When you go to see Katie Morgan's comedy routine, the first thing you'll likely notice is her smooth Southern drawl, as she is originally from Georgia. Today, Morgan has found a lasting home and community in Seattle, where many of her new found friends, particularly of The SheSpot improv group. Another unique quality about Morgan that has become one of her main selling points is that her humor is clean.
"Humor doesn't have to come from a dark place," she asserts, "there's so much humor in every day life."
Morgan's take on comedy is a departure from mainstream comedians such as Will Ferrell or even typical headliners at Comedy Underground. She takes inspiration from being around her friends and the things they go through, not targeting controversial or risque issues.
"Comedians have a responsibility to be fair to the people who are listening," she says, "it's not fair to potentially insult someone by trying to be funny...my job [as a comedian] is to inspire people."
Morgan is firmly rooted in her clean version of humor, and has started up a monthly comedy series that will feature clean humor only. Proving that there's a market for this brand of comedy even in Capitol Hill, Morgan's debut show of this series sold out in a matter of weeks.
Morgan's next show is happening this Saturday night at The Odd Duck. The night's theme is "Gang Related," and it's "about a lot of things, mainly community and the situations we find ourselves in with friends." Morgan will be headlining, with other local comedians Derek Sheen, Lauren Skelton, Lydi Otis, Emmett Montgomery, and Barbara Holm on deck to open. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 206-679-3271, or online: http://bpt.bz/e/168680.
