A Little Icelandic Treasure Comes To The Tractor on Wednesday

OlofArnaldsPromo.jpg Wednesday night, we will be serenaded by Icelandic beauty Ólöf Arnalds; this will be her second visit to Seattle since November (maybe it’s the non-stop flight from Reykjavik). Her timing was impeccable on her last stop in our fair city—we were in the midst of #snOMG and, other than one brave Seattlest photographer, we were isolated in our cars listening to her KEXP in-studio session wishing we could make her Showbox performance. We were whisked away by her soothing voice and precise acoustic guitar, despite treacherous conditions.

Growing up, Ólöf was classically training on the violin, but self-taught on the guitar and, by the sounds of it, she hasn’t had much trouble picking it up. Most lyrics are in her native language, Icelandic. She has begun performing in English, most notably her song “Surrender” which was mixed with Bjork.

Who’s on first? That’s Sergius Gregory. While he is a folk singer-songwriter like Ólöf, his approach to the art is not in quite in the same vein, but enjoyable nonetheless. He prefers to have his vocals slightly distorted, but they do not sound out of character, as demonstrated on his song “All Bricks & Mortar.” It’s a prime example of his craft. To write this album (his first), he moved from Hawaii to Alaska where he tucked himself away and cranked out music. Since then he’s stayed in Alaska and begun his first tour. We’re anticipating this to be an exciting night of musicians.

Tomorrow @ Tractor Tavern // Doors 8 p.m. // 21+, tix $10
