Woodland Park Zoo Update: Wolf Welcome Wagon!
Ah-OOOO! A new pack of wolves has descended upon the City of Seattle. As part of their efforts to educate the public about conservation and endangered creatures, the Woodland Park Zoo has brought four one-year-old gray wolves to live in the award-winning Northern Tail exhibit.
We at Seattlest love wolves. So many killer songs, werewolf myths, t-shirts. These fierce creatures are known to turn any normal teenager’s life into an angst-ridden nightmare at the dawn of a full moon. Their howls permeate Halloween festivities. Their fangs have terrified filmgoers for decades. To show our appreciation and excitement for the arrival of this pack, we’ve made a list of the best things about and references to wolves. Enjoy!
- Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like a Wolf”. Such a weird video, and such a perfect accompaniment to '80s montage scenes.
- Three Wolf Moon T-shirts. Tons of controversy, which is just hilarious.
- They adopt babies if left on their doorstep by panthers.
- TV on the Radio’s “Wolf Like Me”. Yet another amazing wolf song.
- Team Jacob!
- Teen Wolf. Michael J. Fox was just an ordinary teenager, until he finds himself transforming into a werewolf. Makes him a stellar basketball player, though!
- And, of course, “Thriller” not only has one of the best howls around, but the wolf-like dancing is iconic.
